Ideas For Summer Camp Games? Students Have Developmental Disabilities…?

in Developmental Disabilities

I am trying to come up with three hours of group activities for students with developmental disabilities – I want it to be fun for the kids, but I also want it to be educational without the students knowing it.

There are a WHOLE BUNCH at http://www.TossingGames.com and they provide FREE game plans to print too to build your own if you wish. Fun for everyone!

If you can get a copy of Carole Kranowitz “The Out of Sync Child Has Fun” it will be invaluable. Most students with develpomental delays need guided social interaction and sensory input. She has great ideas and most are very inexpensive. Just remember that each of these children will have it’s own reaction to some of the activities so have some back up solutions.

i work at a summer camp for kids with disabilities and we do all sorts of stuff. We make “dirt pudding,” play a game called “drip drip drench” (just like duck duck goose but instead of tapping on the head, you drip drip on them from a sponge and then, you guessed it! you drench the person that is suppsoed to follow you.) This might sound like its just for fun and has no other purpose, but all of the kids really get involved during this game, and its often difficult to get kids with developmental disabilities active. You can read a story and help the kids make sock puppets of characters from the story, etc… email me if you would like more suggestions

Try asking Trivial Pursuits questions, but make sure they aren’t the tough genious questions…I can’t even answer those…
