How Do Jails/prisons Handle Inmates With Contagious Diseases?

in Diseases

I need to do a research paper on contagious diseases in jail and prison. Do they keep the inmates separate from other inmates, do they give them medication?
Diseases such as HIV, AIDS, TB, SARS or MSRA.
Any information would help out a lot. Thank you in advance.

Yes and no, first off, staff cannot disclose an inmates medical history with anyone unless there is a reason. Just because they have HIV or AIDS is not reason enough. If they have an actively contagious diseases like TB, MRSA, etc.. staff is informed so they can wear a mask.
Inmates are not housed based on their diseases, unless they need to be quarantined. Certain prisons have specialized doctors, and inmates are transfered if they want to receive the specialized care.
At least in CA, inmates that have HIV or AIDS do not wear special jumpsuits. Only inmates that are vision, hearing, or mobility impaired wear special vest, so in the case of an emergency staff know they might need assistance.
Inmates receive medication for whatever doctors order, usually the generic version. The nurses make their rounds 3 times a day, and there is a medical office on each yard.
Btw Hepatitis is the most common diseases, not considering inmates history before prison, in prison inmates get it between drug users, prison tattoos and inmate sex.

they keep them separated from the other inmates sometimes ,but they cant segregate unless there is an immediate danger (msra and active tb) but they do let inmates with aids and hiv live with the other inmates .but only if the are not sexual predators .but they make them Wear a different colored jump suit (red)
but that doesn’t always work
when ever i was in prison i still caught active TB
and yes they do give them there medication .

They have quarantine areas in all state prison hospitals. And prisoners in general receive better medical care than alot of tax paying citizens. Sad but true,
