in Diseases

I am planning on traveling to South America soon with a group of people and we are planning on doing this the cheap way and staying in hostels and such and I am worried about all the illnesses and diseases there.
What should I be aware of and what shots do I need ??

Yellow Fever. And for heavens sake bring a condom. STD’s are common as dirt.

You have nothing to worry, unless you are going to the jungle or something which i highly doubt you are. You don’t need any shots. Worse case scenario would be maybe getting dengue which would be very very rare… Also like someone said above me, use a condom because just like ANY other place in the world, there are STDs here in latin america.
Other than that, don’t worry enjoy the trip. I’ve lived in Latin America (Costa Rica) for 21 years and the worse thing ive had is a runny nose

Malaria and Dengue Fever are the most prevalent, followed by yellow fever. They all are spread by mosquitoes. Your family doctor can advise and inoculate you for any others that you can’t prevent yourself by practicing normal hygiene. Don’t worry and enjoy your trip.
