As a nurse, I have done home health care. It is very stressful. However, if this family member is disabled, she can collect from Social Security or Medicare, because the family has no means of paying her. Another option is Oms Budsmen, Not sure if I spelled it right. They are an organization geared to help disabled, or in-home patients. they may be able to help. God bless her for what she is doing. She makes me proud to be part of that life. Another thing, It will only take a couple of months for her to get her CNA and enable to work as a professional home health aide. It will be worth her while. I taught this class and it is not hard. With her experience, she should pass with flying colors. Look into it.
Memere, I agree with you 100%! As far as your fiance goes, did he graduate from an accredited class that’s approved by the state? If he hasn’t, he needs to go back to school, take the state boards, and get certified. If he is, he can register with the different home health care agencies in your area that will pay him. As far as the family member is concerned, if she’s disabled, she can apply for social security(SSI) and possibly qualify for Medicare. Look into your local department of social services to see if she can apply for Medicaid and/or Food Stamps. Every little bit helps, my dear. Good luck!
It might depend on the state she’s in. Some states have coverage under the Medicaid plan to pay family or non-family as caregivers, to avoid nursing home placement.
